Legislation According to EU
When the Waste Incineration Directive applies:
The WID applies to the incineration and co-incineration of both hazardous and non-hazardous waste. The definition of the three terms ‘waste’, ‘incineration plant’ and ‘co-incineration plant’ determine the scope of the WID. This is discussed in detail below but the following flowchart may help to provide initial screening to determine if the WID applies to a given activity.
Meaning of the term ‘waste’:
For the purposes of the WID ‘waste’ means any solid or liquid waste as defined in Article 1(1)(a) of the Waste Framework Directive (Article 3 of the WID). Reference should be made to Guidance on the Waste Framework Directive.
