The PacWaste project consisted of the installation and commissioning of 26 state-of-the-art healthcare waste incinerators in Kiribati, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.

These high temperature medical incinerators ensure that biohazardous waste (such as pathological, Type I – IV, Pharmaceuticals) will be treated in accordance with international guidelines on the safe processing of hazardous waste streams. These are the first of 26 incinerators commissioned by PacWaste to the Pacific region’s key hospitals and health clinics.

Medical waste should to be disposed of in a quick and efficient way to limit the risk of contamination from any hazardous waste, and to increase the biosecurity for all involved. The model supplied for this project, was the i8M-120 with an additional Venturi wet scrubber, this has the benefit of being able to burn a wide variety of materials in one unit. The i8-120 also benefits from a top-loading design making it very easy to load waste and increase usability. It has a large capacity and is easy to maintain which makes it perfect for operations such as this.

The project has now been up and running for over 12 months and has been a great success for the local community. The local residents have seen a huge decrease in general waste and more especially local clinics and hospitals have been able to dispose of their waste in a quick and effective manner.
